GMHCN PArtnership with
kaiser permanente of georgia
In a partnership between GMHCN and Kaiser Permanente of Georgia, we provide peer support to any of their members in recovery from mental illness or addictive disease. These members are located throughout the state, but primarily in the Atlanta Metro Area. On paper, the goal of the program is to decrease hospitalization and increase outpatient utilization. In actuality, we provide a connection unique to Certified Peer Specialist and play a vital role in their recovery. Throughout our time with them we work on goal setting, skill development (coping and life skills), advocacy, building up their support system and much more. Using a combination of phone calls and in person meetings that occur in the community, we help them make the connections they need to thrive in their recovery.

In addition to the one-on-one support, we also conduct weekly and monthly peer support groups. These are focused on a variety of topics such as mental health education, addiction support including DTR (Double Trouble in Recovery), WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan), WHAM (Whole Health Action Management), resource sharing and whatever else is needed. Our groups can be online, here at the GMHCN office in Tucker, at a Kaiser Permanente facility, or out in the community.
On the Kaiser Project, we are very passionate about helping a demographic that very rarely is exposed to the power of peer support. The privately insured almost never even learn what peer support is, let alone get opportunity to engage with a CPS. Throughout the State of Georgia, most peer services are focused on the uninsured or those with Medicaid. It is our hope that we will be the example for other organizations to embrace the recovery movement and begin offering peer support to everyone.
