This is a visualization to promote self-awareness, and to promote and maintain well-being on all levels. Too often we start our days in a rush instead of taking timeto be self-aware and set the tone for the day. We need to be proactive – not in preventing illness – but in promoting and maintaining our wellness. All it takes is 5 minutes upon first awakening (or even before going to sleep) to perform this simple exercise.

Lie still and take some deep breaths. Become aware of how your physical body feels – any pain? Do you feel tired? What are your thoughts about? How do you feel emotionally?  Do not categorize or judge what you observe; simply notice it and allow it to be what it is. Take another deep breath and imagine pure golden light suffusing your body, infusing every cell. Ask that this light cleanse, balance, and heal every cell in your body. You can use whatever visualization appeals to you. Some people see themselves standing in a shower of light; others see it
coursing through their bodies like current. (Mine is always accompanied by sound effects.) Next, expand the light in your body to fill your aura – that space around your physical body into which your electromagnetic energy extends (average is 4 ft). Ask the light burn away negative thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve your highest good. Sense the purity and beauty of your light. Know that the source of this light is infinite and that no darkness or negativity can stand against it. Feel the unconditional love in this light and your connection to it. Express gratitude for the good health you have and the healing you have received. Take a moment and think of three other things you are grateful for today. Now you have set a positive tone for your day. Go out with your light-filled self and SHINE!

Once you get the “technique” down, it is helpful to feel the light and the energy in your body than it is to think about it. This is not meant to be a mental exercise, but rather a visceral experience of the essential beingness that animates the physical body. This visualization can be very calming at bedtime, especially while listening to soothing music. Performing this exercise places emphasis and builds on the positive rather than on attempting to eliminate a negative -  a basic recovery concept. So why not honor yourself by starting/ending your day with this reminder that you can do anything!
